{Mackinaw}

One of the most famous places in Michigan is Mackinaw Island. It's a beautiful island located in Lake Huron between the upper and lower peninsula. It is only 8 miles around and has no motor vehicles.

We went up for a day trip at the beginning of August with some good friends of ours. We ate lunch and then took the 20 minute ferry ride over to the island. The breeze kept us cool, the kids loved it, and no one fell overboard :)

We took our bikes with us and it couldn't have been a better decision! We got to explore the entire island all day and the girls loved the ride!

 We decided rather than bike the flat outside of the island we would venture straight up the middle to see all there was to see! I was a little nervous after the first mile of the bike ride was ALL straight up hill!!! My 26 week pregnant body was struggling trying to make it up some of those steep hills in the beginning. Luckily, all of us (men included) had to get off and walk our bikes up). We were definitely super tired and sweaty but also super proud when we finally reached the top :)

 This one was rocky but it didn't stop anyone from getting a little or a lot wet. It was beautiful watching the boats and looking through the crystal clear water.

 

Then we were all tired and ready for a pick-me-up - ice cream did the trick!

After our pit stop we finished our bike ride riding along the shore looking at all the beautiful homes and bed and breakfasts. The girls were both so tuckered out from our adventurous day that they both ended up taking a quick snooze along the way -

 

Mackinaw is famous for their fudge so we couldn't leave without some! After many samples we settled on a few different kinds and packed it up to take home with us - unfortunately it didn't last longer than a day or two!

 I don't know why we waited so long to venture up there but we were so glad we did this year. It was so fun and we'll definitely be going back again!
