{international night}

Brooklyn has been having a wonderful year and absolutely loving first grade. I know much of it has to do with the amazing teacher she has! We are so grateful to have such awesome teachers so far in her schooling! 

One thing her teacher does is offer a reward for any student who can reach 100 Accelerated Reading books. This just means they have to read the books and take the tests associated with each one. She was so excited to be the first girl to reach 100 and the reward is to go out to lunch with her teacher who then takes her to Barnes and Noble and lets her choose a book. Brooklyn picked McDonald's as her lunch of choice and a Magic Fairy chapter book to take home. She was thrilled and loved this special time spent with her teacher!

The class also did country reports as well. Brooklyn choose to research Bolivia because that's where Justin served his mission. She learned interesting facts about the country and then each of the kids were videotaped talking about their country, where it is on the map, and showing that country's flag. 

The entire class complete with families then got together one night for an 'international night' where we saw the DVD they had made complete with songs and different clips from them working in their classroom. Then we had a feast eating the food that each student brought from their the country they researched.

At this year's school carnival they featured different raffle items. One of the items being raffled on was from Brooklyn's teacher and it was a movie date for that child and a friend to go with her teacher to a movie of their choice. One of the little boy's in Brooklyn's friend, her buddy Max, won that raffle item and choose to bring her and another friend along. She was thrilled this past weekend to go see Rio 2 on Saturday with her friends and teacher. She had lots of fun - here she is with her Spiderman slushie and 3D glasses :)

We have been so lucky so far to have only such positive things to say about the teachers Brooklyn has had. We can only hope and pray that the rest of her teachers follow suit!
